Ashmoor Men's 1st XI. 2

HAVING gained their first win of the season, Ashmoor were looking to get their first points on the road and build on their victory against Oxford Hawks last time out.

The University side took the lead with something of a gift at the back post just before the quarter-time whistle.

Ben Barnett, a normally reliable figure, was caught as he tried to clear with Exeter counterattacking and doubling their lead, even after Ashmoor had settled into the game.

Ashmoor required an injection of work-rate and quality after the interval and this was duly provided in abundance.

Sol Bloomfield was impeded in close quarters and Rich Fisher made no mistake in converting the resultant penalty stroke.

After a lot of huffing and puffing, Cullen Turner made it 2-2 in the final two minutes, having returned to the fray after a harsh yellow card. He drove in, around the back of the Exeter defence and with numbers streaming forward, his pullback was met first time by Lewie Jones to give Ashmoor their second goal.

There was no time for any more action and Jones was selected as the Pallex Player of the Match. Next up, Ashmoor host Reading on Sunday for a 1pm start.

Ocean City 4th XI. 1

Ashmoor ladies faced Ocean City 4’s on Saturday in the Petroc Division Two.

It took a while for Ashmoor to get started but when they did, Sophie Walker fired a shot into the bottom lefthand corner and opened the scoring.

Unfortunately, Ashmoor were caught on the counterattack shortly afterwards, allowing Ocean City to equalise.

Tilly McEwen restored the advantage before the break from a well-worked penalty corner and then the Ashmoor dominance shone through in the second half.

The youngsters linked up well for a couple of goals before Walker and McEwen struck again for a convincing and controlling 6-1 win.

Evie Lockett was this week's Player of the Match. The ladies do not have a league fixture next weekend so will be getting their practice in by playing the Ashmoor Men's 4th XI in a friendly match.

Ashmoor Men's 2nd XI. 3

In a fiercely fought contest on Saturday, Ashmoor travelled to North Devon and came away with a well-earned 3-0 victory in the Riviera Division One. This wasn’t your average win - it was one of those games where every player left a bit of themselves on the field.

After a slickly executed short corner, Reuben Stanley was on hand to dispatch a ferocious drag flick.

Ashmoor’s second goal, just before halftime, was a beautiful demonstration of teamwork with Tom Barnett capping it off.

The third and final goal came in the 55th minute after Matt Pearce threaded a pinpoint pass to skipper Tyrone France, who expertly lured the keeper off his line before selflessly passing to Barnett for his second of the afternoon.

Will Robinson earned the Player of the Match plaudits for his tireless running, relentless pressing, and sheer determination embodying the spirit of the Ashmoor team. This weekend Ashmoor, who sit at the top of the Riviera 1 table, have a mouth-watering clash when they host second-placed Exeter, who are also undefeated.

Exeter Men's 3rd XI. 2

Ashmoor Men's won the battle of the Third teams in a solid performance against a competitive Exeter side.

The defence weathered an early storm and then with their first real attack Ashmoor took the lead. Angus Martin crossed and John Lilley pounced on the rebound when the keeper could only parry the ball.

Another rebound brought about a second goal, Martin converting this time. Seb Brown finished well shortly after the break to make it 3-0 after good work from Ali Wood, but the game was far from over.

Exeter struck twice in the final 15 minutes, setting up a nail-biting finish, but the experienced Ashmoor saw the game out for their second win of the season. Angus Martin was Player of the Match in a good team display.

This Saturday the Ashmoor 3rds travel to play Isca in Exeter.
