PETROC DIVISION TWO

University of Plymouth 4th XI 1 Ashmoor Women’s 1st XI 10

ASHMOOR Women's team were away at Plymouth University in their first match of the season.

They started the game strongly with an early goal from new signing Sophie Blee within the first three minutes! Last year’s top goal scorer, Tilly McEwen, closely followed with a perfect penalty flick.

Within the first half, Bea Beswick also secured Ashmoor two more goals to leave the scoreline 4-0 at the interval.

The second half continued with a dominant performance with some textbook passing and movement from Ashmoor all over the pitch. Goals in the second half came from Laura Colwill, Emmy Buckman, Hannah Broadbelt and a further three goals from McEwen, resulting in a 10-0 lead! Unluckily for Ashmoor, Plymouth scored on a break near the end of the game against the run of play.

Evie Lockett was named as the Player of the Match whilst captain Jordan Wright concluded that this result was a testament of the group’s hard work. Torbay come to town next.

Ashmoor Men's 2nd XI 2 Isca Men's E 0

The 2024/25 season opener for the Men’s 2nd team was a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Isca, laying down a marker for the season ahead.

Ashmoor didn’t waste any time in opening the scoring- Jordan Teague firing home with precision after a slick passing move orchestrated by captain and playmaking maestro Tyrone France.

From there, the game took on a gritty, physical edge. Isca pushed hard, but Ashmoor’s defence held firm. With Ashmoor also getting the better of the midfield battles, as halftime approached, Ashmoor struck again. This time Charlie Brownlow tucked the ball home on his reverse after another inch-perfect assist from France.

A tense second half followed and more strong defending kept out Isca and earned goalkeeper James Bromfield, who was stepping up from the fourth team, a clean sheet and the Player of the Match award.

Torbay also await the men, as they go on the road on Saturday.

Exeter & Culm Vale Hornets 3rd XI 5 Ashmoor Men's 3rd XI 1

The 3rd team weren’t quite as successful, facing a tough task on the road without skipper John Lilley.

An Ashmoor team containing some of the 4th team players moved the ball around confidently and it was only two fortunate penalty corners that separated the sides at the break.

A counter-attack goal by the Hornets made it 3-0 before Alex Mills was able to hit back instantly.

Any hope of a comeback was thwarted when the ECV forward claimed a debatable touch on a hard-hit ball into the D, and to everyone's surprise, the home umpire awarded it. Another mishit penalty corner goal made it 5 for the Hornets despite Ashmoor’s best efforts.

Alex Troake, the debutant in goal, was named as Player of the Match.

This weekend the 3rd XI host Torbay 2nds, whilst the 4th XI kickstart their season at Taunton Vale.
