BUCKLAND Athletic have seen their last two outings go to penalty shootouts but that won’t be possible this weekend.
Adam Seedhouse-Evans pulled off the heroics in between the sticks on Saturday 21 as Athletic advanced beyond Callington Town in the FA Vase, before then coming up just short on Tuesday 24 against Torquay United in the Devon St Lukes Challenge Cup.
A trip to Welton Rovers beckons tomorrow, the same Welton side that Buckland put eight unanswered goals past at Homers Heath at the end of July. They are rock bottom in the Western Football League with 12 defeats from 12 and a goal difference of -54, so whilst Buckland will be heavy favourites, they can’t allow complacency to creep in up in Somerset.
Meanwhile, in the South West Peninsula League, Newton Abbot Spurs and Teignmouth AFC had a weekend off and Bovey Tracey AFC were in Vase action, losing to Ilfracombe Town on penalties.
It is now Bovey’s turn to rest whilst Teignmouth and Spurs visit Elburton Villa and Honiton Town respectively, fixtures between 7th & 5th and 4th & 11th.
Defeat away at Ilsington Villa lost Newton Abbot 66 top spot in the South Devon Football League Premier as Waldon Athletic replaced them at the summit, a trip to sixth-placed Buckfastleigh Rangers presenting them a swift chance to bounce back.
Meanwhile, there will be a battle of the bottom two as Chudleigh Athletic meet Beesands Rovers plus the aforementioned league leaders will host Kingsteignton Athletic at Windmill Hill, one of four teams yet to get points on the board.
In Division One, the pick of the bunch involves Watts Blake Bearne and Plymouth True Blues, a matchup between second and fourth respectively.
All three teams yet to accumulate a point in Division Two are Mid-Devon based and they all have away fixtures coming up tomorrow.
Buckfastleigh 2nd XI go to Watcombe Wanderers 2nd XI, Newton Rovers 1st XI to Upton Athletic 1st XI and Ipplepen Athletic 2nd XI to Paignton Saints 2nd XI.
Ashburton are one of only two Division Three sides yet to be beaten and they will fancy their chances at continuing that streak this weekend with Paignton Saints thirds in their path, a team with a win and three defeats to their name.
Finally, to Division Four, where Kingskerswell (3rd) host Broadhempston (2nd) and Chudleigh Athletic (1st) travel to Newton Rovers (5th) in the two standout fixtures.
