ASHMOOR Men's 1st XI's National League match on Sunday was a washout and had to be abandoned just six minutes in due to a waterlogged pitch, as pictured (courtesy of Mark Lockett Photography). This weekend, the team travel to Fareham hoping to gain their first win on the road.
This was the only game not to be completed though with the Women’s 1st XI beating Torbay 2s on home soil.
Ashmoor captain Jordan Wright was able to field a strong side ready for a tough game against an unfamiliar opposition.
The hosts created a lot of early chances but it was Torbay who made the breakthrough on a counter-attack. Ashmoor kept fighting and just before the break, Emma Fisher scored a lovely goal to tie it up at 1-1.
Top goal-scorer Tilly McEwen then showed her brilliance, dribbling through the Torbay midfield and finishing in style. This go-ahead goal came with 10 minutes left to play and a strong defensive performance saw Ashmoor hold on for a 2-1 win.
Player of the Match was shared between substitute goalkeeper Julie Ingham-Hill and the fantastic midfielder Emily Hunter. Next up is a match against Dart 4s.
The Men’s 2nd XI were able to unleash a goal-scoring clinic away at Torbay 3s, firing home eight unanswered strikes.
Harry Little kickstarted the romp, magicallyweaving past two defenders before slotting home. A team masterpiece followed, rounded off by Dan Green at the back post.
Sam Haywood was in the right place at the right time, his predatory instincts paying off twice.
With goals raining down like confetti, Neil Titford and Dan Cowdry got in on the action with Green and Little adding a second each also.
Player of the Match Titford was everywhere, orchestrating play and picking out passes that had Torbay chasing shadows.
Ashmoor Men's 2nd XI will be looking to try to maintain their 100% record in a much tougher game when they host Teign on Saturday.
Unfortunately, the Men’s 3rd XI were the only team to lose this weekend, narrowly missing out in a close contest with Torbay 2s.
There were plenty of chances created at both ends but despite their best efforts, Ashmoor were unable to find the back of the net.
Torbay capitalized on their chances, scoring two crucial goals either side of half-time that proved decisive.
Ashmoor will look to bounce back away at Plymouth-based Ocean City.
Finally, to the Men’s 4th XI, who played out a 2-2 draw with Taunton Vale 4s.
This was their first league match and it was certainly an entertaining one- Mark Taylor and Steve Dinnie both rifling home equalisers in this end-to-end affair.
A first home, league game awaits next against Sidmouth & Ottery 3s.
