DAINTON Park’s Mike Lang and Pat Darch completed a 54-hole challenge on the hottest day of year - so far!
On Wednesday 26 June, Mike (Seniors Captain) and Pat (Seniors Comp Sec) completed their 54-hole challenge - walking all the way, in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
They set up the challenge some months ago, when, little did they know, their chosen day would turn out to be one of the hottest days of the year.
Setting off at 6.15am and completing their first round in a little over three hours playing some great golf – they decided to play for high stakes - £1 per round!
As the day, progressed the standard of golf slightly deteriorated but there were still some great shots right to the end.
With many kind donations at stake from friends, family, old work colleagues and generous members - including one who set the challenge of a donation based on the number of birdies achieved - the focus was maintained throughout the day.
Having had no birdies on their first 16 holes, Mike and Pat thought they were not going to be lucky – but, following a great drive by Mike he achieved the first birdie on 16th and Pat followed with a 4ft putt for birdie on 17 - the next two rounds produced another four birdies so overall six were scored in the three rounds – and James honoured his challenged.
Having collected in the vast majority of the promised donations, the club believe they have raised a fantastic £1300 for Marie Curie.
The duo are pictured looking as fresh as the daises (well, daffodils), on their t-shirts.
Mike’s best round came the second time around, shooting a very strong 71 including back-to-back birdies on holes eight and nine.
For Pat meanwhile, it is perhaps unsurprising that his scores increased the longer the day went on. A pair of 39s for 78 on the first outing was his lowest total, the best hole being the 17th on which he got the aforementioned birdie two.
