NEWTON Abbot Spurs have just experienced an intriguing week of South West Peninsula League action to say the least.

A 3-2 away win at Honiton Town, courtesy of goals from Owen Green and Finn Pearse (2), further strengthened Spurs’ credentials as a high-flyer in the division.

The midweek visit of Elburton Villa presented them another chance to take a big scalp only for the game to be abandoned due to floodlight failure. As a result of this, Spurs and Elburton remain in fourth and fifth respectively.

Marc Revell’s men will be in league action once again as they make the trip to an Axminster Town team on just one point having dealt with issues raising a team at the start of the campaign.

Teignmouth AFC have the weekend off at that level whilst Bovey Tracey follow up their exciting cup tangle with Exeter City by hosting Okehampton Argyle at Mill Marsh Park.

Argyle are in third with 15 more points than Bovey (having played three extra games) and given their attacking potency, Tony Radford’s side are in for another big challenge.

In a battle between sixth and fifth respectively, Buckland Athletic have the reverse fixture against Street FC in the Western Football League. The pair met at the beginning of September at Homers Heath and after boasting a two-goal and one-man advantage, Buckland slipped to a 2-2 draw in front of a home crowd.

Dan Hart will be keen to see his team exact revenge over the Somerset-based outfit. Only one point separates the two but Buckland do have three games in hand and thus remain firmly in the hunt for the title.

Talking of Buckland and whilst the 1st XI are on their travels, the 2nd XI will play at Homers in one of the standout South Devon Football League fixtures this weekend.

The Division One team will host local rivals Newton Abbot Spurs 3rd XI, both of whom have just one win apiece thus far, making it all the more important.

Also in Division One, Bovey Tracey 2nd XI go to Brixham Town 1st XI and WBB welcome The Windmill to Abbrook Park.

Premier Division outfits will take a break from league action to get a taste of the Sportslighting Premier Cup, Spurs 2nd XI going to Boca Seniors, Kingsteignton Athletic 1st XI to Budleigh Salterton and Buckfastleigh Rangers 1st XI to Elmore. Lastly, Newton 66 1st XI host Lakeside Athletic 2nd XI.

Other SDFL fixtures of note taking place tomorrow include Ipplepen Athletic 2nd XI (13th) visiting Mount Gould (1st) in Division Two, Kingsteignton Athletic 2nd XI (3rd) vs Elburton Villa 3rd XI (4th) in Division Three and Teign Village 1st XI (3rd) vs Templer Way 1st XI (5th) in Division Four.
