NEWTON Abbot Spurs went to Honiton Town and secured a big three points in the South West Peninsula League on Saturday, September 28.

Defender Finn Pearse was joined on the scoresheet by Owen Green in the first half as Spurs led 2-1 away from home at the break.

The former found the back of the net again in the second 45 and inspired Marc Revell’s men to a hard-earned 3-2 victory.

This result left Spurs in fourth and a subsequent fixture on Tuesday, October 1 against Elburton Villa at The Rec could have further shifted the picture. The pair remain in fourth and fifth respectively though as the game had to be abandoned due to floodlight failure!

This was one of three mid-week league fixtures with Honiton also in action, facing Axminster Town plus Crediton United took on Torridgeside AFC.

On October 2, both Teignmouth AFC and Bovey Tracey also played but their clashes came in the St Luke’s Challenge Cup.

Teignmouth were beaten 4-3 away at Cullompton Rangers whilst Bovey had an exciting visit from Exeter City, losing out to the Grecians 2-0.

Prior to that, Bovey had the weekend off whilst Spurs and Teignmouth got a rest the week prior. For Teignmouth, they weren’t quite as successful as Spurs, travelling to Elburton and losing 3-1.

Scott Baxter scored the Teigns goal and the club wrote on their Facebook that it, “Doesn’t feel like much is going our way right now, but a great team shift put in down at Elburton yesterday even though it wasn’t to be our day.”

Looking ahead to the fixtures coming up in the SWPL Premier East for our Mid-Devon trio with Spurs on the road, Bovey doing battle at Mill Marsh Park and Teignmouth with no game.

The latter will host a strong Okehampton Argyle side who have some exciting attacking players and then Spurs will visit Axminster Town. Axminster have won one and drawn one of their first eight but remain on just the one point due to a deduction, following issues raising a team earlier in the season.
