NAZ Siddiqui hammered a whirlwind century as Plymouth raced to a five-wicket win at Abbotskerswell and up to second place in the A Division table.
Abbots laboured to 188 for nine in their 50 overs before Siddiqui set off in hot pursuit of the target and raced to 101 off 58 balls.
Although the run rate slowed following Siddiqui’s demise, there was no stopping Plymouth after the start they had.
Par Singh and Toby Hard had two wickets each for rock-bottom Abbotskerswell.
Charlie Hill opened with 32 for Abbots before Saish Reddy (2-33) spun him out. Tyler in at 67 for three, was involved in stands that added 98 to the total.
Nial McCarthy (18) was part of one stand. It ended when he made too much room to sweep Fahad Ali and was bowled behind his legs. Guest, who put on 58 with Tyler, was run out in the last over.
Ed Smout-Cooper, the Abbotskerswell captain, said the following after the game, describing it as “one of the most destructive innings”.
“Unfortunately we were on the wrong end of another overseas 100.
“I think our bowlers bowled fairly well, but they came up against a very good player.
“There were lots of good contributions with the bat, notably from James Tyler, who showed maturity in getting us to what is normally a very competitive total at home.”
Dropping down to E Division West now and Teignmouth & Shaldon 2nd XI bowled out Bridestowe 2nd XI or 152 before going on to win by six wickets.
Opener Richard Drake made 40 for Bridestowe, and was matched score for score by Phil Hatton, in an encouraging running total of 122 for five.
Andrew Espley got stuck into the Bridestowe middle order and his six-for-38 haul sent them on the slide. Only Callum Mallett (20) resisted for long.
Skipper Karl Blackburn hit 59 to revive the T&S chase after an early wobble and Scott Baxter finished it off with an unbeaten 50 off 30 balls.
Baxter won it by smashing Drake for successive 60s that took him to 50.
At the same level, table-topping Chagford sent Torquay & Kingskerswell 2nd XI tumbling to a 121-run defeat.
James Fulner (62) made the early runs for Chagford and was joined by Jake Griffiths for a stand that added 113 for the third wicket, the latter top-scoring with a run-a-ball 80.
Tom Lillywhite topped T&K’s bowling stats with three for 45. Matt McCann and Ant Nadar claimed two wickets each.
McCann (14) and Fiaz Ebrahim (36) made some progress with the bat, as did Mike Etherington (16) and Preshit Pawar (14), but that was not enough, ending up at 100 all out.
Griffiths (2-19) and Jack Brijnath (2-12) had a couple of wickets each. Neil Rowlands was top dog with four for 14.
