BOVEY Tracey Bowls Club men's team began the week on a miserable evening in Totnes playing their penultimate Mid-Devon League match of the season.
However, the mood was lifted after they won the match overall by 86 shots to 78 with the rinks drawn two each, giving Bovey 10 league points to Totnes' four.

Continuing with the men, in the Over 55s X Division, Buckfastleigh were the visitors with Bovey winning on both rinks to take the match by 38 shots to 20 and claim all eight league points. S Parry, D Johnson, P Joy 18-15; D Anderson, S Callard, R Bailey 20-5.
A home mixed friendly against Starcross played on a pleasant afternoon in a cordial atmosphere resulted in a win for Starcross by 79 shots to 59 with the rink score two-all. L Fullbrook, C Crocombe, D Johnson, H Call 18-13; S Davies, J Franklin, N Fletcher, K Lockett 19-18; J Fullbrook, A Franklin, M Botham, S Callard 12-29; P Fletcher, K Callard, N Botham, S Johnson 10-19.
Next came a trip to Plymouth to the excellent venue of Sir Francis Drake Club where the Bovey team were warmly welcomed on arrival. The home team kindly loaned Bovey four players to enable rinks format to be played rather than triples and the match resulted in a win for SFD by 3 rinks to one and 66 shots to 54.
With the club competition finals only two weeks away, there were several matches in the various events. The ladies' 2-woods category resulted in wins for Heidi Call by 20 shots to six over Sarah Breame and for Deborah Bailey against Carol Howard by 14 shots to 11.
In the ladies' handicap, Heidi Call played two rounds, winning 24 shots to eight against Deborah Bailey and 21 shots to 11 over Lucy Brothwood. Yvonne Stanford and Sue Johnson proved too strong for Rose Young and Lucy Brothwood, winning by 25 shots to seven.
In the men's 4-wood singles, Keith Lockett capitalised on a strong 14-0 start against Phill Cridge to run out a 21-7 winner. Finally for this week, Roger Bailey won by two sets to nil against Yvonne Stanford in the Ley Cup.
