KBC LADIES entertained Bitton Park on July 30 in their SDLBL and won 71-35, securing all 10 league points.
Sue Hancock 18-17 V Strutt; Margaret Sole 30-9 J Potts; Jackie Carr 23-9 M Murgatroyd.
Ladies’ captain Margaret Sole said it was an enjoyable match but in all honesty, it was far too hot. All the KBC ladies played well, allowing them to win on all three rinks. On Sue Hancock’s rink, KBC won on the last end- they needed one shot to draw but skip Sue drew her last two woods in to take the win.
Next up was KBC’s Over-55s on July 31 with both squads playing at home. Firstly, the X Division, who hosted Teignmouth Den and were narrowly beaten 28-31, 0-8 on the league points front.
John Saunders 16-18 T Skinner; Derek Honeywill 12-13 B Bray.
A very frustrated KBC skipper John Saunders said it was a very close match on both rinks and they managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory! Derek Honeywill was all square going into the final end and dropped a shot by the narrowest of margins. Skipper John, was 2-up going into the last end and dropped four shots to lose by two. It was, therefore, an 8-0 loss which so easily could have been an 8-0 win. Quite exasperating but well done to The Den.
Now for the Y Division who welcomed Dawlish Marina and beat them 48-26, claiming all eight league points as well.
Martin Redfern 31-9 F Baker; Bill Beech 17-17 D Blandford.
Y Div captain Bill Beech said it was a wonderful match played in very hot conditions but among good friends. Martin’s rink stormed off and led his game throughout, ending with a great win.
Bill’s rink started well, leading the first half going into tea 10-7 up. However, after a further two on the eleventh end, they hit a wall and stayed on 12 for the next five ends, ending up 14-17 down on the final end.
It transpired that KBC were holding two, requiring one more for the draw - no pressure! Lady Luck smiled on Bill and he drew his last bowl close for a draw. Bill Beech also said his fruit cake went down well but it didn’t slow Dawlish M. down.
Finally, KBC ladies were up once more, at home again, earning an emphatic 75-29 victory on August 1 against Brixham St Mary’s and claiming all ten league points.
Jackie Carr 23-12 E Pegnado; Sue Hancock 25-8 J Matlock; Margaret Sole 27-9 B Nicholas.
Ladies’ skipper Margaret said later that the match was very friendly and not so hot, thank goodness. The KBC ladies all played well, winning on all three rinks again.
Margaret’s rink achieved a ‘Hot Shot’ (all 3 players scoring with all their woods: 9-0 on 1 end)- a very good performance from KBC ladies.
