A Teignmouth pub has organised a series of activities during what is traditionally the town’s carnival week to raise money to support a full return of the event next year.
Last month, organisers announced that this year’s carnival would be postponed due to finance, resource and time constraints and policing issues.
However, the landlords of the Blue Anchor were so ‘gutted’ about the gaping hole the loss of this year’s carnival had put in the summer events calendar that they took matters into their own hands.
‘We were gutted that things couldn’t happen as normal for carnival week,’ said Blue Anchor landlady Adele Hearne. ‘We completely understand the reasons why and wanted to still support the carnival in some way this year and to help towards next year,’ she added.
Planned events include a quiz, a beach party disco with cocktails and slush, and live music. Teignmouth Social Club will also be holding a bingo evening.
‘Now is the time to support the carnival more than ever to ensure it happens next year,’ Adele commented adding how grateful she is to everyone who has been involved in putting the carnival on throughout the years.
‘Luke and Adele are massive supporters of the carnival and the committee. They discussed the idea of doing these events with us and we are thoroughly supporting them,’ said Teignmouth Carnival Committee chair Sarah Woolway. ‘To be honest, Teignmouth as a community has been really supportive and understanding,’ she added.
