SIX Haldon Trail Runners took part in races in Devon and Cornwall at the weekend.

New member James Holmes performed incredibly in the unique point-to-point Arc of Attrition 100-mile race around the Cornish coast, finishing in 50th place overall.

The event, officially 162km long with 4,250 metres of climb, started in Coverack at midday on Friday, January 24, with entrants having a maximum of 36 hours to get to Porthtowan. It is not for the faint-hearted, boasting some of the most exposed sections of the South West Coastal Path.

While 257 of the 515 starters didn’t finish, James crossed the finish line in a time of 27:34.42.

Fellow club member Ryan Davies took on the 25-mile version, also finishing in Porthtowan, and came home 477th in 6:34.51.

The club had two runners at the Pagan Trails races on Dartmoor, based out of Chagford, on Saturday, January 25.

Mai Warren did the 28-mile marathon and was 26th in 6:01.11.

Katie McCullagh, meanwhile, did the half marathon and was the first woman, and fifth overall, in 2:17.58.

Simon Bunday and Bria Grange did the Endurancelife races at Beesands.

The scenic but tough race starts along the South West Coast Path before turning inland to East Prawle, with runners taking on fields, woods and plenty of mud along the route with some tough climbs.

Bria completed her first marathon and was equal third in the open female category, alongside Tara Davis, and 26th overall in 5:36.03.

Simon won the MV65 section in the half marathon, finishing 92nd in 2:42.13.
