NEW Cross RFC moved up to third in the Devon Two table after defeating Sidmouth 10-0 in what was a rare sporting fixture, the majority falling foul of the weather.
Dicky Life and Rob Pedrick were the try scorers in a muddy affair at Five Lanes.
Tim Marshall, the New Cross team manager, said: “It was a superb performance from everyone, in what were pretty tough conditions.
“Defensively we were brilliant throughout, and took our chances when opportunities presented themselves.”
New Cross will host Exeter Engineers on Saturday.
TEIGNMOUTH skipper Pete Parsons is not a happy man going into this Saturday’s South West Two home game against Wadebridge Camels.
Last Saturday’s league break did Teignmouth no favours at all, according to Parsons.
And the gaps in the side this Saturday are something Teignmouth could have done without.
“The weekend off came at a really bad time as any momentum from the win over Newton Abbot has been lost,” said Parsons.
“There are quite a few players unavailable this weekend due to a big group of them going away, which is pretty frustrating.”
NEWTON Abbot meanwhile will be very much up against it when they make the short trip to Topsham.
It is a top-versus-bottom clash in South West Two – Newton Abbot are bottom – with all signs pointing to a Topsham win.
“Last season we won both games and are hoping for a repeat,” said Ross Bovingdon, Topsham’s rugby manager.
Newton Abbot have not won since beating Wellington at home in round two. They are eight points adrift in the bottom two with the halfway stage of the season just around the corner.
The following Saturday’s home game against North Petherton is the midpoint of the season.
