NEWTON Abbot RFC had a rare South West Two victory pinched from their grasp at Wellington, where the home side scored a try and converted it in the dying moments to claim a 32-29 win.
After a slow start, the All Whites fired back and led twice in the second half. Just when it seemed Newton were on course for only their second win of the season – they defeated Wellington at Rackerhayes back in week two – victory was cruelly snatched away.
Newton’s only consolation were two bonus points for scoring four tries and losing by fewer than seven points.
Try scorers for the All Whites were Jake Monnington, Matt Wreyford, George Heath and Luke Moore. Tom Steer knocked over three conversions and a penalty.
Newton, who are eight points adrift at the bottom of the table, are at home to Crediton this Saturday.
Their 2nd XI (pictured) meanwhile, were at home against Exeter Engineers and lost 46-34.
