Petroc Division 2.
Ashmoor Womens 1st XI. 4
Ocean City. 0
ASHMOOR women's team faced Ocean City last weekend in the final game of the calendar year.
Ashmoor were quick off the mark, grabbing an early goal by converting a well-practiced penalty corner with midfielder Emmie Buckman scoring to make it 1-0, a lead that remained at the break.
Following a motivating half time team talk from Captain Jordan Wright, Ashmoor came out fighting to increase their lead. Ten minutes into the second half, a great play starting from defence led to striker Emma Fisher hitting a well-aimed pass towards the back post, that was skilfully tapped home by Sophie Blee, making it 2-0.
Ashmoor continued to demonstrate their top form with top goal scorer Tilly McEwen dribbling the ball past a number of Ocean City defenders and planting the ball into the back of the goal to make it 3-0.
The home side kept pressuring Ocean City and eventually grabbed the fourth and final goal of the game. This goal came from Ashmoor utilising the width of the pitch and working the ball forward to Sophie Walker who entered the top of the D and powered a shot into the bottom corner.
Ashmoor's strong second half performance solidified their place as Petroc League leaders at the halfway mark of the season. Player of the Match Hannah Broadbelt was praised by her teammates for her dynamic defensive performance at centre back.
Ashmoor ladies return to action on January 11, 2025, with a trip to Tavistock & Launceston. They will be hoping to keep up the momentum having been unbeaten so far this season.
