WITH no local tournaments for developing women’s rugby players, Teignmouth RFC prop Jane Mclellan took on the challenge to bring the opportunity to life.

Jane had no experience in organising such an event at the time and so this was no easy task. From gathering teams, referees, pitch availability, first aiders, food for players and volunteers……. the list was endless.

Not one to shy away from a challenge, Jane tackled every obstacle she was faced with and the dream was starting to become a reality. Once all of the foundations were in place the next challenge to face was a name suitable for such an event.

As host club Teignmouth are situated on the River Teign, the Estuary Cup seemed to be a very fitting name.

Jane’s determination and drive caught the eye of close friend and owner of Ohana beauty, Jade Vass. Jade, a keen rugby follower and past player of Teignmouth, kindly offered to sponsor the Estuary Cup and ensured the winners would hold an extremely impressive cup.

The third instalment of this annual tournament awaits on Good Friday with proceedings set to commence at 10am.

Bideford, Cullompton, Totnes and a Baa Baas team will join Teignmouth for this day of great rugby at Bitton Park.

Teignmouth RFC’s beer and cider festival will be going on at the same time so there is certainly something for everyone- get on down!
