FOLLOWING a successful winter calendar of bowls matches and social events, members of Bovey Tracey Bowling Club are very much looking forward to the official opening of their green this coming Saturday afternoon, particularly as this lovely spring weather appears likely to hold.
During the winter, members have continued to enjoy indoor bowling weekly at Torquay United FC with invitations to play other clubs around the region, such as Torquay Oldway, Sidmouth and Honiton. Match results have been somewhat mixed but invariably enjoyable.
Social events have included a pub games evening, a bingo evening with fish and chip supper, several coffee mornings, a day out to Exeter races and, just recently, a chance for members to try their hands at 10-pin bowling.
Moving forward to the summer season, the club would like to draw attention to their forthcoming annual Open Day on Saturday, May 3 between 10am and 4pm, aimed at attracting new bowlers interested in playing lawn bowls. The venue is the Bowling Green (between cricket and tennis clubs) in the Recreation Ground on Newton Road, Bovey Tracey.
Everyone is welcome to come along and try it - there's no dress code, you just need to wear flat shoes on the green, and people can just drop in and out when convenient. There will be several qualified coaches plus club members available to give guidance on playing and provide information about the bowling club and its activities.
Half-price annual membership and ongoing coaching sessions are on offer to any new members and refreshments will be provided throughout the day. This event has been very successful in recent years and Bovey Tracey Bowls Club looks forward to welcoming everyone on the day.
