TEIGN Bees recently celebrated their feat of winning Division Two of the newly formed Devon Women’s Walking Football League.
The club may only be two years old but they overcame teams from Dawlish, Mid-Devon and Modbury to win the league on goal difference.
Starting the day in third place and five points behind leaders Dawlish Swans, the Bees got straight to work. Having fallen 1-0 behind, they beat Modbury Vixens 2-1 with the winning strike coming courtesy of Kate Hine.
In the second game, Lisa Durie was tasked with marking Mid-Devon’s England international out of the game and that is exactly what she did. Jenny Bergman produced the decisive finish in favour of the Bees.
Kate Hine found the back of the net once again, this time in a 1-0 win over the Swans, the favourites for the title.
All was to play for now and the last game was against Dawlish Fledglings, a must-win game. Teign Bees knew if they won this match and Dawlish Swans didn’t win their final game by six clear goals, then they would be crowned as the champions.
Both teams won their respective games, Kate, Jenny and an own goal helping the Bees to a 3-0 scoreline and in return, the league title via goal difference.
Looking ahead to next season already and teams from Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City, amongst others, await.
An added bonus on the day was Kate Hine winning the Golden Boot award for scoring the most goals throughout the league season.
The Teign Bees are looking to strengthen the squad for the 2025/26 season and if anybody interested in playing women’s walking football, for over 40s, they would love you to get in contact on [email protected]. Equally, potential sponsors can get in touch via the same email address.
