TIVERTON full-back Ben Bingham must wish he could play against Teignmouth more often after taking a try hat-trick off them in a 43-20 win at Bitton Park.

Bingham claimed a hat-trick at Teignmouth’s expense when the sides met earlier in the season – and did it again with three in a row in the rematch.

Tries on 22 and 32 minutes, both converted by Jack Sampson, took Tiverton into a 14-0 halftime lead. Bingham struck again two minutes after the restart. Sampson’s kick took it to 21-0.

Teignmouth’s best scoring opportunity was a drive for the line in Clubhouse Corner that was held up in goal.

The game opened up after half-time with Teignmouth matching Tiverton try for try for the rest of the match. What barely varied was the Tiverton lead, which was never less than 16 points.

Matt Dowrick was first over the line for the Teigns with a try in the corner.

Scrum-half Dan Woolnough scored a try hat-trick inside 14 minutes for the Teigns during a break-neck second half.

Woolnough’s first try came off the back of a maul; his second followed sustained pressure in Tiverton’s red zone and the third was scored on the end of a pass from No.8 Alex Ford.

Jonny Fairclough, Tyler Voaden (2) and Will Norton were Tiverton’s second-half try scorers.

Pete Parsons, the team captain, said for 40 minutes the Teigns were just as good as Tiverton. It was the first half that was the problem.

“Apart from not being pleased with the scoreline at home, we were actually fairly happy with our performance at times,” said Parsons.

Then, “the second half was better. We scored four tries made a game of it and gave the crowd an exciting match to watch at times.”

Teignmouth have now gone five games without a win in South West Two on the way down to third from bottom. They are away to Wellington this Saturday.
