THE Devon County Bowls AGM, which was cancelled last month due to adverse weather conditions, took place at Exeter Golf and Country Club on Saturday, January 11 and two members of Newton Abbot Bowling Club were presented with county honours, reports David Pickett.

I received the Badge of Office in becoming Devon County Junior Vice President for 2025- it is a one-year role that leads to Senior Vice President in 2026 and eventually President in 2027.

Whilst I would like to thank my club for putting me forward for this position, the main thanks go to member Alan Mann for proposing my role and from the outset, encouraging me all along the way. I have a great respect for this man, who has been a past president himself and whose knowledge has been invaluable.

Also, thanks go to Bill Smith of Bitton Park, who seconded me for my current position and as the immediate past president, has helped me to gain information on the role and what it involves so I have had good mentors.

The Devon County Presidential Team past and present are a joy to work with and I look forward to the 3-year cycle with them on the way to being president, I realise it means a lot of work but that is where the word team comes into it.

Ken Howard, another Newton Abbot Bowls Club member, was also honoured by the county with an Order of Merit for his services to the club as Captain/Club President/Greenkeeper Manager to name just a few roles.

I believe I am right in saying he is the second-longest Member after the aforementioned Alan Mann.

Congratulations from the club go to both David and Ken.
