Newton ABBOT Buzzards got their SD&T Table Tennis season underway with a fine 8-2 victory over Brixham Sharks with Kevin Nicholls unbeaten.
NA Eagles meanwhile, recovered from last week’s loss with a 10-0 win over Brixham Trawlers, Jeremy Broad, Bryan Birkbeck and Guillaume Gaston in control throughout. A Jim McIvor maximum helped NA Owls to a 6-4 win over clubmates NA Condors.
In Division Two, Halwell B started their season with a 7-3 victory over Torbay Academy 2 but they couldn’t get the better of Neville Cregan, who picked up the Academy’s three points with an excellent maximum.
Also playing their first match, the newly formed NA Ravens returned from the Grove with a 6-4 victory over the Guerrillas. Steve Hugh on debut for the Newton Abbot club secured a fine maximum.
7-3 was the common score in Division Three, Torbay Academy 4 beating Dawlish Renegades, Torre Vikings overcoming NA Kites and the Brixham Gulls winning against the NA Kestrels, inspired by an excellent maximum from Issy Brown.
In Division Four, the youngsters from Torbay Academy 6 secured another 6-4 victory, a Gustaw Adamczak maximum leading them to victory over Dawlish Delinquents.
Another Lee Raymond maximum helped NA Merlins to a narrow 6-4 victory over Brixham Seals.
Grove Tigers got their campaign going with an impressive 8-2 win at Torre over the Spartans, Peter Daly was unbeaten for the Tigers.
Finally, Rob Ferguson and Ken Ramsden's maximums helped guide NA Ospreys to a 9-1 win over Torbay Academy 7.
