WALTER C PARSONS LEAGUE CUP

Newton Abbot Spurs 3 Millbrook AFC 1

NEWTON Abbot Spurs overcame Millbrook AFC in the Walter C Parsons League Cup on Saturday, October 12 thanks to a brace from substitute Tate-Breslan Aggrey.

This clash between a South West Peninsula League Premier East side and one from the Premier West went flying out of the blocks, with both teams providing chances and big tackles from the off.

Spurs peppered the Millbrook goal in truth but they lacked that clinical edge to put the game to bed until late on.

Nick Rudge opened the scoring for the home team, driving into the box and firing low and hard beyond the visiting goalkeeper. There were then numerous chances for Marc Revell’s men to double their advantage but the likes of Owen Green and Brad Crocombe were unable to do so.

Millbrook defenders cleared a couple of efforts off of the line and Spurs striker Stuart Morgan missed golden opportunities, making the ‘Brook equaliser against the run of play an inevitability really, given the nature of the sport.

Their best chance of the first half was a cross that sailed over Owen Vosper’s head and smacked off of the post but after the break, Jack Smart was never going to miss for the away team from a few yards out.

Revell immediately responded with a quadruple change and it was one of those who he sent on that won the game at The Rec.

Callum Noyce came close a number of times before Tate Breslan-Aggrey was on hand to finish off a neat move courtesy of two fellow subs, Tyler Joint and Tom Lobb.

Before the number sixteen could score his second, Millbrook’s number ten received a second yellow and his dismissal was a long time coming given the constant fouling.

Nick Rudge was the creator this time around, delicately chipping through for Breslan-Aggrey to fire home with five minutes remaining- Millbrook players appealing for offside but to no avail.

The last 16 beckons now for Spurs with a trip to Elburton Villa coming at the end of November, although attention turn to the league visit of Torridgeside AFC on Saturday, October 19 first.
