A FANTASTIC 15th edition of the fantastic Dartmoor Classic, hosted by Mid-Devon Cycling Club, attracted over 1,500 cyclists to tackle the stunning Dartmoor National Park.

Riders could choose from three different routes, which were as follows. The challenging Grande route that stretches 109 miles (175 km), the Medio route that offers a solid 68 miles (110 km) and then the more accessible Piccolo route, at 39 miles (63 km).

The event featured a closed-road hill climb segment, adding a fun and challenging twist for many participants.

A special highlight was thanks to sponsor EKOI. Seven lucky cyclists, including 15-year-old Jacob Start and 14-year-old Matt Holmes from the club's youth academy, had the unique opportunity to ride alongside cycling legend Pedro Delgado! Delgado, winner of the 1988 Tour de France and Vuelta a España champion in 1985 and 1989, rarely visits the UK, making this a truly special occasion for the Mid Devon Cycling Club.

This event has a long history of supporting its youth riders. Funds raised from the event go towards development programs, and a former youth rider who now races for the prestigious UCI World Team Cofidis even returned to the event village on Sunday to show his support.

Such success wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of over 200 club volunteers. These dedicated individuals played a vital role in every aspect, from marshalling on Dartmoor and setting up signage to working with Dartmoor rescue and running the essential feed zones.

The Mid Devon Cycling Club extends its heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of them. Their tireless efforts are what make the Dartmoor Classic such a special event and plans are already happening behind the scenes for 2025.

Beyond the Dartmoor Classic, the Mid Devon Cycling Club continues to be a powerhouse for young cyclists.

This weekend, three club members competed in the National Youth Series in Bradford. Edward Fraile-Whysall impressed with a 16th-place finish, while Dexter Townsend placed a strong 19th. While Bayley Woodger faced a mechanical issue early in the race and couldn't finish, the strong performances from his teammates showcase the depth of talent within the Mid Devon club.
