STOVER Golf Club hosted the highly coveted Torbay Cup this weekend and the event was a great success, enjoyed by all.
This Ryder Cup-style event pits six local clubs against each other and The Warren came out on top to claim the 2024 title.
Foursomes and fourballs took place on the Saturday and then the competition concluded with singles matches on Sunday August 4. Each team consists of eight players.
Starting with the foursomes and The Warren surged into an early lead after this aspect of the tournament. Their score of 17.5 had them on top but Torquay and Teignmouth were hot on their heels with 16.5 and 15.5 respectively.
Next came Stover and Churston both on 13 whilst Dainton Park brought up the rear on 8.5. Dainton struggled again in the fourballs as their score of 6.5 was the lowest by some margin.
Churston and Teignmouth scored 12 with Torquay marginally ahead on 12.5, but it was hosts Stover and the eventual winners that boasted a strong score, 19.5 and 21.5 respectively.
The Warren actually finished joint third on the Sunday, in the singles event, but their advantage from the day prior was enough to get them over the line.
Tied with them on 28.5 points were Dainton, ahead of Churston (25.5) and Teignmouth (20). Home advantage paid dividends for Stover whose score of 33.5 pipped Torquay on 32 and they finished second overall as a result.
Warren (67.5), Stover (66), Torquay (61), Churston (50.5), Teignmouth (47.5), Dainton (43.5) were the final standings and whilst it was a highly competitive weekend, spirits and enjoyment levels were just as high.
