GAME six of this year’s men’s South Devon Golf League took place over the weekend.
Teignmouth, Dainton and Churston were the three hosts and they all prevailed, pointing towards the impact of having home advantage on these fixtures.
Teignmouth inflicted a first defeat of the season upon Stover, winning 5-2 on their own patch in impressive fashion.
Stover remain in first place in the overall standings but their lead over Churston has been reduced to a single point.
Churston enjoyed the biggest winning deficit this time out as they beat Torquay 6-1. They haven’t won the SDL title since 1998 but now find themselves in a strong position to break this negative streak. Stover will visit Churston eight in game 8, on July 27, in what could well be a title decider.
Torquay, who were just beaten by Churston, sit fifth at the time of writing on 17 points, in what is a particularly tight table in all honesty.
Teignmouth’s win takes them ahead of Torquay whilst Dainton Park and now just one point behind them, having enjoyed a great result over The Warren.
The Warren won this fixture 4.5-2.5 just two days prior and so for Dainton to prevail in the reverse, on the home course, makes it all the more sweet.
Dainton won by the exact same score line and they will be playing at home yet again in their next outing, when Churston come to town on July 13.
There are three normal game weeks remaining and then on the final weekend, Saturday September 7, all matches will be required to get underway at the exact same time, 11am, to allow for maximum tension across the board.
The remaining fixtures are as follows. Game seven, July 13: Stover v Torquay, Dainton v Churston, Warren v Teignmouth. Game eight, July 27: Churston v Stover, Torquay v Warren, Teignmouth v Dainton. Game nine, August 31: Dainton v Stover, Warren v Churston, Teignmouth v Torquay. Game 10, September 7: Churston v Teignmouth, Stover v Warren, Torquay v Dainton.
