STOVER Golf Club raised £524 on Seniors Captains’ Day for Rowcroft, with an impressive table of over 50 prizes contributed by generous members.
Thanks go to Eileen Garbett and Jo Wright for selling the raffle tickets and doing the draw, to St Austell Brewery for providing the drinks at the halfway house, to Denise Bawden for running it and lastly to Harvie Taylor, for his sterling job of sorting the scores.
Meanwhile, 90 seniors competed in the waltz (1,2,3) Stableford competition and this was won by Richard Jansen, Peter Digby & Ray Sewell, on 79 points.
Larry Smith, Donald Carter & Colin Smith edged out Ian Stronach, Steven Rowles & Kim Cotton for second place, with both trios scoring 77 points.
Alan Sloman won the nearest the pin in two on the ninth and Richard Pascoe won the nearest the pin on the 13th
Another tournament of note was the John Rees & Butler Cups, which were won by Matt Lyne (Scratch) with a gross 75 and Ray Utting (Handicap) with a nett 68.
As well as the Seniors Captain’s Day, the Ladies Captain’s Day was held recently and everyone showed up in their 1980s-themed fancy dress.
There was an 80s-themed light buffet halfway round and 80s music playing in the background all day long. There was also 80s retro sweets and a cardboard beatbox with presents inside given to the ladies.
The various fund-raising activities included a raffle, choosing the drive of the pro, Andrew “Foxy” Fox on the first, the wheel of fortune/misfortune on the 10th tee run by Dave Marks and putting & chipping competitions, which all contributed to raising £632.00.
It was a great effort from the 77 ladies that took part and Ladies’ Captain Teresa Metters would like to thank all that made the day so enjoyable- she is pictured alongside Foxy in her Tina Turner fancy dress.
Margot Goodall, Sue Ray, Marcia Vojtisek & Jenny Pennell came out on top with 89 points, narrowly beating Hilary Richards, Jane MacDonald-Smith & Susan Dolan and Sarah Arnold, Lesley Pascoe, Kate Field & Angela Hickey, both of these groups finishing on 88.
Meanwhile, Janet Emery won the 9-hole competition with 15 points.
Lastly, the weekly Wednesday Stableford was a team event with one score to count on holes one to six, two scores on seven to 12 and three scores 13-18.
Dan Hall, Curtis Hall & Toby Harvey prevailed and were joined on the podium by the trios of Steve Bristow, Rob Vooght & Stewart Duncan and Billy Bristow, Jack Bristow & Billy Fenner.
