LAST week was a busy and successful one for the ladies section at Teignmouth Golf Club.

The first success was for Joyce Brown and Amanda Coleridge, playing in the quarterfinals of the Doris Willes-Little Competition on a very grey and overcast day at Holsworthy.

Amanda and Joyce were drawn against Ilfracombe and giving away five shots, they knew they had to keep focused to win the match and move into the semis. Thankfully, they proved they make a great pairing and won the match on the sixteenth by 3&2. Their next match is against Saunton at Downes Crediton.

Also representing Teignmouth were the formidable pairing of Sally Tyler and Irene Munday, who were drawn against Tiverton in round three of the Devon County Vets Ladies Golf Association inter-club knockout played at Honiton.

This time, the midday sun was out with a vengeance and Irene and Sally had to fight hard against their very steady opponents. It took until the eighteenth for Irene to sink an eight-foot putt and clinch the victory. The duo also play their next round at Downes Crediton.

Teignmouth ladies' Creasy team, having won their last match in the divisional stage of the competition against Honiton at home, were confirmed as the division winners and secured a place in the quarterfinals as a result.

The team was drawn against Ilfracombe and the match was played at Okehampton Golf Club. Fighting as hard as always were the singles players with Lorraine Gorman first out, facing a very strong opponent and narrowly losing 2&1.

Lorraine Dunn was next up and playing her usual, steady game from the start, she took her match convincingly 5&3. Kathryn Protheroe stretched hers out (not deliberately, of course!) and won on the nineteenth which meant Teignmouth needed one more win to take them into the semi-finals.

Marie Mayne and Clare Walpole unusually struggled as they were against opponents who played a nearly faultless game, losing a close 2&1. The final pair of Surya Patterson and Ros Hearn were dormie four in their favour on the fifteenth but took it to the seventeenth to keep the very large crowd of Teignmouth players and supporters on their toes.

A great chip on by Surya meant they won the hole and sealed the match to put the Teignmouth Ladies Creasy team through to the semi-finals to be held at Downes Crediton.
