HONITON Golf Club played host to the Women’s Senior Championships on June 27.
Ann Desmoulins, Lorna Brown and Wendy Stanbury were the trio of volunteering individuals helping run the event and their efforts were hugely appreciated.
Sarah Hoff of Stover was playing in one of the earlier tee times and she posted a gross 85.
Directly behind her though was Dainton Park’s Jo Fisher, who matched that impressive score of 85.
The next trio of Amanda Burchell (Bigbury), Gilly Jarvis (Yelverton) and defending champion Vicky Holloway (Ilfracombe) were just one shot off with scores of 86, and Sarah Arnold (Stover) was the only other player to threaten the lead with an 86 of her own later on.
A playoff ensued between Sarah H and Jo and the pair parred the first two holes, making it all the more tense.
Sarah’s fluffed chip on the third playoff hole gave Jo the chance to win the title and she did just that, scoring a par and earning the 2024 Women’s Senior Championship as a result. Commiserations to Sarah and congratulations to Jo!
Jo has now qualified to play at Woodhall Spa in the national final in September.
Alongside this was the competition for the Handicap Trophy, and the gross winner wasn’t far off claiming an esteemed double.
A nett 72 placed Jo in second, behind only Janet Hughes of Honiton, who carded 69 and took the trophy. To add to her delight, Janet scored one of only two 2s on the day.
DevonGolf is very grateful to Honiton Golf Club for their support throughout this competition.
