TEIGNMOUTH Golf Club’s Senior Captain Dave Anderson held his away day at St Mellion GC on Thursday July 4.
A total of 38 players played the Kernow Course, proceeded by a bacon roll and coffee and then there was a two-course meal afterwards in The Nicholas Suite.
Dave himself was unable to play due to a broken wrist but he was driving around in a buggy, offering morale support and helping competitors find their balls in the rough.
Jeff Joseph (15) won the Captains’ Trophy with 42 points whilst Trevor Tead (23) won the Over 70’s Trophy on countback, scoring 36 points. There were five players over the age of 80 who enjoyed themselves and were rewarded with a sleeve of balls for their efforts.
Other award winners included Jeff Joseph and Dreck Rowley for the Silent Pairs, Andrew Tapson for nearest the pin and Mark Cooper for the longest drive.
The final award went the way of Bob Radley, who beat everyone hands down when it came to the captain’s request for the most colourful outfits available to be worn.
Talking of Bob Radley and he achieved a hole-in-one on the 229-yard par three 18th in the monthly Stableford on Monday July 1.
David Boulton was the overall winner with 42 points, playing off of a handicap of 27, whereas Mike Moulds (17) prevailed in Division One on 39 points and Robert Oswin (29) topped Division Two with 41 points.
