BOTH Newton Abbot Spurs and Bovey Tracey AFC enjoyed home victories in the South West Peninsula League Premier East on Saturday, October 26.

Starting with Spurs and there were goals for Nick Rudge, Tate Breslan-Aggrey and Brad Crocombe in a 3-0 win over Bishops Lydeard at The Rec.

This makes it five wins in the last six for Marc Revell’s men and was a great show of character as they bounced back from a mid-week disappointment. On the 22nd, they were beaten away at Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police in a narrow 1-0 affair, this being the outlier in the aforementioned stretch of six games.

Spurs were third in the Premier East after the weekend but Sidmouth Town went back ahead of them after beating Axminster Town 5-2 away from home on the evening of Tuesday, 29.

The top two, Okehampton Argyle and Cullompton Rangers, were also playing on that day and switched places in the standings. The latter are now top thanks to a 7-0 thumping of Bishops Lydeard, whilst Oke slipped up at Torrington, losing 3-2.

Onto Bovey now and they also had a 3-2 win courtesy of three different scorers at Mill Marsh Park, when Sidmouth Town came to town.

Neil Last gave the home team a first-half lead from the penalty spot before Thomas Burt made it two just before the hour mark.

Sidmouth halved the deficit, then Billy Spurway restored the two-goal cushion off of the bench before the away team struck once more, but they were unable to find a third on the day.

Bovey enjoyed a streak of three consecutive victories in all competitions back in August but haven’t tasted success since then so this was a welcome result against a team firmly in the title race. What a feat!

Finally to Teignmouth AFC and they were the only one of the Mid-Devon three in this division to drop points, and they dropped all three.

It was a narrow affair away at Honiton Town with Owen Hanks scoring the Teigns’ goal in a 2-1 defeat on the road.

Honiton have a record of 2-4-4 after this one whilst Teignmouth’s is 4-1-7, with the pair sitting 11th and 10th respectively.
