WITH talk of another storm swelling, we could be in for another weekend without our local football but fingers crossed for that isn’t the case.

Buckland Athletic will be away from home in the Western Football League and yet remain in Devon, as Barnstaple is their destination. The pair met very recently, at the end of November, with Barnstaple Town winning 4-3 in a hugely dramatic affair at Homers Heath.

Dan Hart will be keen for his side to exact revenge in this Devon derby, crossing paths with yet another high-flyer as the big games continue to come thick and fast.

Moving over to the South West Peninsula League and two of the three Mid-Devon-based sides will also be going on their travels tomorrow.

Newton Abbot Spurs visit Sidmouth Town and Teignmouth AFC will be hosted by Torridgeside AFC, both facing teams close to themselves in the standings.

Sidmouth are in second and are seven points ahead of Spurs in fourth but have played two more games and so there is very little to separate the pair, whilst Teignmouth are on the same points as Torridgeside but have three games in hand on them.

12th-placed Bovey Tracey AFC are scheduled to play at Mill Marsh Park assuming their home ground can deal with any inclement weather coming our way, rock-bottom Axminster Town coming to town and hoping to gain a fourth victory of the season.

Cup action awaits for those plying their trade in the South Devon Football League, whether it be the Herald Cup or the Fred Hewings Cup.

Buckland Athletic 2nd XI will face a Premier Division foe and a local rival in the former, hosting Kingsteignton Athletic 1st XI at Homers Heath.

There are then three Mid-Devon versus South Hams fixtures; Chudleigh Athletic vs Harbertonford, East Allington United vs Kingskerswell and also, Newton Abbot Spurs 2nd XI vs Beesands Rovers at The Rec.

Talking of Newton Abbot and Rovers head to Paignton Saints, a game very likely to go ahead no matter what thanks to the county FA’s all-weather surface at Coach Road, plus 66 are away to Waldon Athletic.

Another three local teams to be playing away from home in the Herald Cup this weekend are Liverton United, Ashburton and WBB.

One of only two Fred Hewings Cup clashes sees Newton Spurs 3rd XI play host to Elburton Villa 3rd XI at Chuley Road. Elsewhere, Totnes & Dartington 2nd XI take on Watcombe Wanderers 2nd XI at Foxhole and other games in this competition are yet to be finalised on the schedule.

Finally now to the few teams in the SDFL that are playing league games. Bovey Tracey 2nd XI visit Brixham AFC 2nd XI in Division One, Ipplepen Athletic 2nd XI visit Upton Athletic’s Armada Park in Division Two, Kingsteignton 2nd XI & 66 2nd XI are at home in Division Three and the same goes for Newton Rovers 2nd XI of Division Four.
