BUCKLAND Athletic suffered late heartbreak in their latest Western Football League outing.

Portishead Town were the visitors at Homers Heath and they struck at the death to take all three points away on Saturday, November 30.

After a goalless first 45, Portishead took the initiative after the break courtesy of Jay Murray.

It then became all about the substitutes for Dan Hart and one of those who he sent on, Luke Forward, took less than five minutes to level the score in Newton Abbot, getting a touch on Frankie Jones’ shot to ensure the equaliser.

More chances came at both ends and then a heavy challenge on James Rowe sparked a brawl of sorts. Jones was shown a straight end as a result, as was Portishead’s Thomas Llewellyn, not to mention that a member of the Somerset-based side’s coaching staff was also given his marching orders.

The drama wasn’t done there as Callum Eastwood turned home a rebound for the away team to restore their advantage in the 89th minute, Portishead then holding on for all three points.

Prior to Portishead’s mid-week clash with Welton Rovers, they sit fourth in the Western League, having overtaken Buckland thanks to this victory on the road. With a record of 11-3-3 for 36 points, they are in fourth and the Bucks are two points behind in sixth, having played one more game.

Coming up this weekend for Hart’s men is a trip to Barnstaple Town, taking on second place in yet another hugely important fixture.
