BUCKLAND Athletic will return to Homers Heath this weekend following an uncharacteristic defeat on the road last time out.
St Blazey handed Buckland their second loss of the season down south in Cornwall despite having only won twice themselves prior to kick-off.
What better way to bounce back though than with a Devon derby win and that is exactly what Dan Hart will be targeting when Brixham AFC visit Newton Abbot tomorrow. It certainly won’t be easy though given that Brixham are at the Western Football League summit and boast a record of 10-4-2 to date.
Two of the Mid-Devon sides are in action in the South West Peninsula League Premier East in the form of Newton Abbot Spurs and Bovey Tracey AFC.
The pair both enjoyed home victories last weekend and now they go on the road to Cullompton Rangers and Torrington AFC respectively, Spurs are in fourth facing the new league leaders and Bovey are 13th travelling to 11th.
Teignmouth AFC meanwhile picked up a seventh defeat of the season and can now turn their attentions to a Walter C Parson League Cup clash with Bodmin Town as they look to get back to winning ways.
Chudleigh Athletic 1st XI, of the South Devon Football League top division, visit the University of Exeter on Saturday in the Sportslighting Premier Cup, whereas other local teams at that level will compete in the league.
Fourth-placed Newton Spurs 2nd XI and eighth-placed Kingsteignton Athletic 1st XI are both at home, Spurs hosting rock-bottom Elburton Villa and the Rams taking on Totnes & Dartington for the first time this season.
Buckfastleigh Rangers 1st XI can make a major statement of intent and climb up the table with a win away at high-flyers Ilsington Villa.
To Division One and Bovey Tracey 2nd XI will welcome Buckland Athletic 2nd XI to Mill Marsh Park in a local derby worth keeping an eye on. Bovey have five wins and two defeats to their name whilst Buckland’s record is the opposite so the away team could really do with a big result from this short trip across South Devon.
Spurs’ 3rd XI may not be taking on a nearby team but their visit to Plymouth True Blues is just as important given the latter’s unbeaten form. True Blues may have dropped points just twice but one of those draws came against Spurs so it could go either way once again.
Division Two’s bottom three are all Mid-Devon clubs in the form of Newton Rovers 1st XI (3 points), Buckfastleigh 2nd XI (2pts) and Ipplepen Athletic 2nd XI (1pt).
The first two will host mid-table sides Paignton Villa and Harbertonford respectively and then ‘Pens have a local clash away at Liverton United 1st XI.
Two Division Three outfits are at home and two are away with the pick of these fixtures being the meeting between Kingsteignton 2nd XI and Waldon Athletic 2nd XI at the infamous Windmill Hill.
Finally, to Division Four, where the game to watch is third-place Teign Village visiting second-place Chudleigh Athletic.
