TEIGNMOUTH AFC’s first game back at their Coombe Valley was a nine-goal thriller in the Walter C Parson League Cup.

Fellow South West Peninsula League Premier East outfit Okehampton Argyle came to town and edged their way into the quarter finals of the cup with a 5-4 victory.

Dan Koita is a constant threat in front of goal for Argyle and he netted a brace on their way to the win, other goals for the visitors coming from Luke Mortimore, Josh Coles and an own goal.

At the other end, Teignmouth’s goals came courtesy of Hayden Roe (x2), Ashley Donohue and substitute Danny Carroll.

Okey will now face fellow SWPL high-flyers Cullompton Rangers on or before February 28 at the final eight stage.

The other ties see Newquay AFC take on Sticker/Honiton, Crediton United hosting Teignmouth’s local rivals Newton Abbot Spurs and Torridgeside AFC making the trip to Penzance AFC.

Talking of Newton Spurs and they advanced to the next stage after overcoming Elburton Villa on penalties. Jaden Bond and Tom Lobb struck for Spurs as they drew 2-2 in regular time on December 10, Owen Vosper saving a penalty in the first half and then stepping up once again as his team won 3-1 on spot kicks.

Returning to the league landscape and Bovey Tracey AFC secured a fifth victory of the campaign, winning away from home at Bishops Lydeard with Neil Last scoring the only goal of the game.

Elsewhere, Cullompton Rangers scored seven away at Crediton United, Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police netted eight unanswered goals at home against Axminster Town and Bridport FC overcame Elburton Villa in another nine-goal classic, this one finishing 6-3.

With a few games set to take place on the 21st, Teignmouth and Bovey are at home for their final games before Christmas as Cully and Torridgeside visit respectively. Spurs are next in action on boxing day with Teignmouth travelling to The Rec.
