BUCKLAND Athletic were eliminated from the FA Vase on Saturday, November 9 with a home defeat at the hands of Clevedon Town.
The Western Football League leaders have lost just once in the league all season and they continued this fine form in their cup visit to Homers Heath.
Harrison Kyte netted twice and Freddie King was also on the scoresheet in the 3-0 win for the away team. Kyte’s second was set up by a perfect ball over from George King, who earned the Man of the Match award from the sponsors on the day, Torquay Wheel Repair.
In the previous round, Clevedon were at home against Wendron United and came out on top 5-1. Meanwhile, Buckland edged out Millbrook on home soil with the in-form Ryan Bush scoring the only goal of that game.
Whilst Buckland, Clevedon and co were playing FA Vase fixtures, Street FC, Shepton Mallet and Wellington were the only WFL teams in the top half of the new-look table in league action.
Street won 3-2 away at Saltash United, Shepton Mallet shared the points on the road against Torpoint Athletic and Wellington overcame Welton Rovers by a single goal.
As a result, Street move up to third in the standings, leapfrogging Buckland who are now fifth, with a 9-3-2 record from their 14 games.
Second-placed Brixham AFC have an opportunity in midweek to reclaim top spot from Clevedon when they visit St Blazey although this will mean they have played three more times than the team from Somerset.
Dan Hart and Buckland will have the chance to exact swift revenge on Saturday, November 16 as Clevedon make the journey to Newton Abbot yet again, this time in league action. The pair have the least defeats in the whole division, with two and three respectively, so it promises to be a clash worth watching.
