PRESSURE is mounting on both Newton Abbot and Teignmouth RFC at the foot of the Regional 2 Tribute South West standings.
The pair currently make up two thirds of the bottom three and they will meet this weekend at Rackerhayes, on Saturday 16, in a fixture for the ages.
With three wins between them in 16 combined outings, it doesn’t make for great reading and so the South Devon duo could both do with a win here ever so badly.
Newton are rock-bottom on seven points whilst Truro in 11th and Cullompton in 7th are separated by just four points, showing that everything is still to play for.
Teignmouth hosted the aforementioned Cully last time out, in what was a big clash in itself, and were defeated 26-40. NARFC meanwhile, made the trip to Winscombe and lost 37-19 to the side now in fifth place in the table.
Teigns finishing in eighth last year with Newton in 10th meant that the twosome steered clear of the bottom two, Chard and Burnham-on-Sea occupying these spots after the final game was played.
The aim has to be safety once again with this weekend’s victor providing themselves the perfect springboard to navigate further up the table.
Looking back to the 2023/24 season once more and Teignmouth got the better of their rivals home and away. They won at Rackerhayes first, by a score of 10-34 in early September 2023, before then hosting Newton on Saturday, April 6 and edging them out 27-20 in a narrow encounter.
These results from months and months ago will go straight out of the window for two sides desperate for a big win.
All attention turns to Newton Abbot’s home ground for a must-watch fixture!
