WESTERN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

Brislington FC 1 Buckland Athletic 3

BUCKLAND Athletic’s latest victory in the Western Football League saw them leapfrog two teams in the standings.

Portishead Town weren’t in action whilst Ivybridge Town were beaten at home by Street FC 2-0, although this pair both have midweek fixtures on Tuesday, 15 and Wednesday, 16 that could reverse this shift.

Dan Hart’s side travelled to Bristol where they clashed with Brislington FC, who were just two points behind Buckland prior to the first whistle blowing.

That gap extended from two points to five thanks to goals from Reece Shanley, Owen Haslam and of course, Ryan Bush, in a 3-1 victory.

Bush notched a treble in the 4-1 win over Welton Rovers and was on target again as Buckland shared the spoils with Street in Somerset.

It was Jared Lewington who couldn’t stop scoring in the first month or two of the season and now he has passed that baton onto another of Athletic’s key attacking outlets.

Buckland move up to fifth after this win but as previously mentioned, this could all change in the next day or two.

Looking ahead now and Hart’s men will return to Homers Heath on Saturday, 19 for an unmissable cup clash. Millbrook FC from the Wessex League (not to be confused with the South West Peninsula League Millbrook), will visit Newton Abbot for their FA Vase first-round proper tie before Buckland then go to Ivybridge Town on Wednesday, October 23.
