ROUND Two of the Snowbee Top Rod competition was up at Hawkridge near the village of Spaxton, just outside Bridgwater in Somerset.

Hawkridge is 32 acres and set in the Quantock Hills. Fifteen anglers made the trip and were met by Gary Howe – the ranger – for tips and any advice. The temperature sat at 12 degrees with sunny spells.

Fish were free rising all day in all areas of the lake. Best tactics were floating line with buzzers, diawl bachs, damsels and cats whiskers and intermediates with lures fished quickly.

Fifteen anglers caught 71 fish for a bag weight of 168lbs 7oz. Thirteen anglers caught their five-fish limit. Average catch was 4.7, and average weight 2.3lbs.

Best Fish of the day was 7lbs 12oz Rainbow caught by Darren Penfold.

1st - Darren Penfold, five fish 15lbs 8oz; 2nd - Tom Hendy, five fish 13lbs; 3rd - Dean Mockeridge, five fish 12lbs 10oz.
