SATURDAY saw the President’s Opening Day at The Den Bowling Club in Teignmouth, with almost all current members coming together for fun, friendship and a slap-up tea.

It was lovely to see both retired members and new joiners. The weather was fine and Teignmouth Mayor, Councillor Joan Atkins, kindly attended and bravely bowled the first wood of the season to great acclaim and applause to get the day off to a flying start.

Following some light-hearted bowling to christen the green, everyone crammed into the newly refurbished clubhouse with its extended bar for refreshments and speeches. Trophies were presented to the winners of last season's internal competitions. 

Lawn bowls is a great sport – definitely not just for 'oldies' – so why not give it a try, you will not find friendlier people anywhere!

This year's open day is on Saturday, May 11, at the bowling club. Please come along and have a try; you will love it!
