YELVERTON fell apart at the seams against visiting South Devon, who skittled them out for 49 and needed fewer than 14 overs to complete a seven-wicket win.

Ben Grove (24) was the lone Yelverton batter to make more than five on a grim day at Langton Park. Four batters did not manage a run between them.

Yelverton’s batters had no answer to the pace of Mali Marshall (3-29) or the nagging seam bowling of Jonny Martin (4-12) as the processed in and out.

South Devon lost wickets at 27 30 and 38 on the way to victory. Kevin Treweeks (2-13) took two of them.

Mark Andrews (21) got the chase up and running. Kalen Warne (13no) was in at the end.

Meanwhile, only three overs were bowled at Bovey Tracey where Teignmouth & Shaldon were the visitors.

Bovey had T&S on five for two when rain stopped play. Braydon Pink claimed both wickets to fall.

Lastly, Barton beat Ipplepen by 41 runs in a confusing game determined by the Duckworth-Lewis System.

Barton dodged the showers long enough to bat for 27 overs and reach a total of 153 for two.

Former skipper Adam Parker top scored with 47 – mostly in boundaries – Nick Watkin’s run-feast continued with 41 and Tarry Masakanda made 25.

Freddie Harvey and Ruben Stanley took a wicket each. Jono Colgate ran-out Shaun Needham.

Duckworth-Lewis decreed that Ipplepen needed to reach 205 in 27 overs to win the game. Although they overtook Barton on the way to 163 for eight from 27 overs, that counted as a loss!

Marcus Gadi (30), Mawgan Penrice (31) and Colgate (31) got Ipplepen’s chase going, but matching an asking rate between seven and eight an over was a problem.

Some press-on batting from Noah Rider (41 not out off 31 balls) helped Ipplepen past 120 and 160 to claim two bonus batting points.

Pick of the bowling for Barton with three wickets each were Morgan Harford (3-24) and Stuart Bowker (3-32).

Matt Beasant, the Ipplepen captain, had no axe to grind with Barton. DLS, however, was a different story.

“Chasing 205 in 27 overs on a wet pitch and with a wet outfield due to the DLS method, when Barton had made 152 in that time, leaves a bit of a sour taste – especially when we had made more in 27 overs,” said Beasant.

“We made a good fist of it with some very positive cricket so I'm proud of our batters for that.”
