TEIGNMOUTH Golf Club was very well represented down in Cornwall at the beginning of July at the Ladies SW Inter-Counties tournament in Perranporth. Members Susie Carr and Hannah Reynolds played in the Devon team who eventually finished a very credible third and were the only team not to be beaten by the eventual winners, Dorset.

Susie won three of the four matches she played and Hannah played brilliantly in two matches at her first-ever Ladies Inter-Counties.

These two super-talented golfers were also bringing in the wins as part of Teignmouth Ladies’ Still Cup team.

The team had one more match to play (against Tavistock) in the group stage before potentially going through to the semi-finals. As well as Susie and Hannah, the team was ably represented by Ladies’ Captain Hannah Stephens, Lorna Elliott, Rosie Jago, Kendal Bradley and Irene Munday.

A final score of 5-2 to Teignmouth against a very friendly and welcoming team of Tavistock Ladies gave Teignmouth a place in the semis.

Susie was in the first match out and she fought tooth and nail to win 2-up. Hannah Reynolds and Lorna were next up and they both won comfortably, by scores of 5&4.

Hannah Stephens followed this up with a true captain’s performance, clawing back a 2-down deficit on the 17th tee to earn a crucial half-point.

This meant that Teignmouth had the three and a half matches they needed and with two more matches still to go. Rosie Jago was next and brought in the fourth win.

Finally, Kendal Brady was next and 2-down going onto the 16th. Her drive on the par five took an unfortunate bounce into a bush which meant she needed to take a drop, she then hit a fantastic shot onto the green and sank the three-foot putt for a birdie four - winning the hole to take her to 1-down.

Never one to give up, Kendal won the 17th hole as well as and managed to halve the last and therefore the match. Finally, it was the turn of Irene and she was playing good golf, leading to her being all square with one hole remaining.

Unfortunately, Irene’s ball didn’t like the dark hole so she lost 1-down, but the team still achieved what they set out to do regardless.

Thanks go to the very friendly and welcoming team of ladies from Tavistock and to all of the Teignmouth support!

At home, competition season is well underway despite battling with some tricky weather conditions. Congratulations to Olly Foat and Taff Pugh who won the Peter Ward Ladies Invitation to Men with a very impressive 39 points.
