THE ladies’ achievements take pole position for Bovey Tracey Bowls Club once again this week.
In the County Two Wood Triples, Heidi Call, Kath Callard and Sue Johnson won 23-8 against Newton Abbot and go through as Section 5 winners to play the winners of Section 7.
In the County Benevolent Triples, Heidi & Sue, teaming up with Chris Towle for this competition, won their first-round match, beating Shaldon 19-10..
In the Grace Matthews 4-3-2-1-1 ladies' team competition, playing away against Dawlish Marina, Bovey won four of the five events. Two wood singles - Sarah Breame lost 12-16; four wood singles - Heidi Call won 21-12; Pairs - Chris Towle and Kath Callard won 26-12; Triples - Carol Howard, Jane Ridgewell and Sue Johnson won 21-11; Rinks - Sue Davies, Yvonne Stanford, Janet Ellis, Deb Simpson 20-13.
Meanwhile, there were various matches from ongoing club competitions, such as Deb Simpson’s impressive 23-15 win over holder Heidi Call in the ladies’ 4-wood singles.
Another notable result in the same competition came from Deborah Bailey who beat Sarah Breame 21-18, having been 10 shots behind halfway through the game. Also, Lucy Brothwood beat Carol Howard 22-8 in the 4-wood and Sarah Breame beat Kath Callard 21-20 in the handicap competition.
On the men's side, Roger Bailey won 21-14 against Kenny Breame in the four-wood singles and Phil Cridge beat Steve Callard 21-17, also in the four-woods. Phil Joy won 19-10 against Les Hignett in the two-woods after scoring eight shots on the last five ends. In the handicap, Phil started with a five-shot deficit to Kenny Breame but uncharacteristically still only managed six shots in the match losing 1-21.
Finally, in the Ley Cup, Deb Simpson overcame Lucy Brothwood and Mark Webber eliminated Lynn Cridge, both 2-0.
