TEIGNMOUTH and Shaldon CC racked up an impressive 233-5 at home to Paignton in Round two of the Corinthian Cup. Ruben Minnaar started things with 56, then Todd Ballman hit 90 as even Steven George’s 3-35 barely stemmed the local tide. No one reached 25 in Paignton’s reply, Minaar ripping through the middle order with 3-2 off of two overs.
Their quarter-final match was also at the Hazeldown Oval, T&SCC again batting first and reaching just 146 all out against Bovey Tracey 2nd XI as McKenna top-scored with 59.
Bovey’s Dan Green chipped in with 3-32, having the home side all out in the last over. It was also one 50 and little else for Bovey, wicketkeeper Jake Forey had 56 before man of the match McKenna earnt 3-25 to stifle the reply to 133 all out, Bovey losing by 13 runs.
Bovey seconds had got to said quarter-final by beating Ipplepen by four wickets, the highlights being Jack Ansley’s 3-13 and 64 runs from Thomas Andrew.
Back in Round 2, Barton lost to Stoke Gabriel by three wickets. Tarisai Masakanda had 59 whilst no one else made double figures. Stoke’s reply was halted by miserly Barton bowling and they just about squeaked over the line.
Stoke went on to win more comfortably at home to Filleigh in their quarter-final, a long fruitless journey for the North Devon side. Jack Tolley’s 90 was match-winning alongside Isaac Withington’s 4-18.
Filleigh had earned that tie by beating Cornwood seconds after an even further journey down to Oak Park. Josh Goodliffe’s 61 was a rare bright spark in a home score of 145 all out. Meanwhile, Albert Buckley’s 5-15 was the performance of the match before his skipper Justin Saker top scored for the away side with 49 off 23 balls.
Elsewhere, Uplyme’s top six batted with aplomb to overcome Budleigh. They went on to play Ottery in their quarter-final, who beat Sandford seconds on their way to that stage, after former Topsham seamer Rhys Norman came in at three and whacked 78 in the away side’s 164-3.
Talking of Topsham and they set up a clash at home against Cullompton at the final eight stage after they beat Sidmouth 2nd XI.
Cully meanwhile Whimple in round two, Euan Tinley and Jason Parr kicking them off with 52 for the first wicket and not even a 3-fer from Freddie Fenner could save Whimple.
Cullompton scored 199 at Topsham’s home, Akshay Bharadwaj’s 75 supplemented by Brenon Parr’s 42. Bharadwaj’s 2-8 and Jack Granfield’s 3-fer left Topsham 96 short.
