ONCE again, Bovey Tracey's lady bowlers have excelled in winning Section 5 of the Grace Matthews team competition, beating Newton Abbot in the section final by 83 shots to 56 and winning four of the five events.
They now go forward to play Section 1 winners, Victoria Park, Bideford, in the Bowls Devon quarter-final. Match scores were: 2-wood singles, Sarah Breame 15-12; 4-wood singles, Heidi Call 21-7; Pairs, Chris Towle & Kath Callard 13-22; Triples, Janet Ellis, Jane Ridgewell and Sue Johnson 11-7; Rinks, Sue Davies, Deborah Bailey, Yvonne Stanford and Deb Simpson 23-8. Well done to all including those who played in the earlier rounds.
There were two matches to report on in the men's Over 55s competition 'X' Division. At home against Teignmouth Den, each team won one rink with Bovey gaining the winning points by 29 shots to 26.
J Richards, C Shoreland and P Joy 20-9; L Fullbrook, S Callard and K Breame 9-17. Bovey take six league points to the Den’s two as a result.
However, away at Shaldon, the result was reversed with the home team taking the overall win by 41 shots to 22 after the rinks were shared.

Bovey visited Teignmouth Den for a mixed triples friendly match and, despite losing on three of the four rinks, they managed to draw the overall score, 62 shots each, thanks to an impressive win by Rose Young's team.

Phil Cridge won 21 shots to 16 against Steve Callard in the Men's Handicap whilst Sue Johnson overcame Lucy Brothwood by 16 shots to 9 in the Ladies' 2 woods and, in the 4 woods, Sue won again, beating Lynn Cridge 21 shots to 6.
In the Ladies' Handicap, Deb Simpson narrowly beat Carol Howard 21 shots to 19 after an epic battle over 27 ends. A Ladies' Drawn Pairs game resulted in a win for Kath Callard and Deb Simpson by 28 shots to 10 over Lynn Cridge and Carol Howard.
And finally, Sarah Breame risked marital harmony by beating husband Kenny by two sets to one in the Ley Cup!
