KINGSTEIGNTON Bowls Club had the pleasure of entertaining a full house of competitors on our all-weather carpet on Wednesday July 10.

Firstly, there was action in the X Division as Starcross Over 55’s came to town.

An emphatic 51-16 victory for KBC secured all eight available league points. John Saunders 25, D Davis 7; Ian Westaway 26, C Grigg 9.

KBC skipper, John Saunders, said it was a good morning all round and they dominated the match throughout. There was no “It all changes after tea” syndrome as Ian only lost one end after the break and John lost two. This is now the second convincing win in a row to end a sorry-looking losing sequence.

Next up is the turn of KBC’s Y Division team, who welcomed bowlers from Shaldon, and once again, it was 8-0 to the home team in terms of league points.

The overall score was 41-18 and the individual scores were Martin Redfern 19-12 N Howell and Bill Beech 22-6 B Mears.

Y captain, Bill Beech said it was a lovely morning of bowls, with both home teams running away with the match in the first half. Credit to Shaldon, though, who staged a bit of a recovery in Martin’s rink but were held off to go down 19-12.

On Bill’s rink they continued in the same vein as before tea and played some great bowls. On the day, despite some good bowls from the Shaldon boys, KBC were just too much in control. At least everybody seemed to enjoy Bill’s coffee & walnut cupcakes!
