NEWTON Abbot Bowls trio Kate Kennedy, Jane Hallward and Isobel Burley reached the Section 5 Final of the County Minors Ladies Benevolent Triples but unfortunately lost out at home to Chudleigh.

In the Ladies SDL League, recent good form continues with another 8-2 victory, this time at Torquay Belgrave, to now move into second place behind Kings Ladies.

Newton’s men’s A-Team, after winning the Section 5 Final of the Top Club, lost out at home to United Services from Barnstaple 3-2 on disciplines in the Open Quarter Finals.

Meanwhile, the men's A-Team’s winning run continued in the MDL Premier League with wins against Paignton and Shaldon, two nights apart, 13-1 and 10-4 respectively. One game remains and a win would secure a first title since 1985.

That being said, they need to win away at Kings or avoid a heavy defeat as they are also in the hunt for top spot and have another game to play after this one.

The B-Team have three wins under their belt and a lead over the two clubs below them but that pair have games in hand, so a strong finish is required.

With no relegation from the fourth Division, the men's C-Team aren’t likely to be promoted either, however, the potential of a big swing in results means never say never.

Whatever the outcome in the final weeks of the various leagues, well done to all of those who took part.

Newton Abbot have several friendlies/tourists games coming up this month so support for those would be grateful and although a month away, September will be busy with tourist games as well.
