AFTER a magnificent season in the Men’s MDL Premier League, Newton Abbot Bowls’ A-Team have become champions with a 12-2 victory away at Kings ensuring they can’t be caught.

13 wins out of 14 is quite the record, the only defeat on their way to 149 points coming away at Bitton Park back in June.

This is a first league title for the men’s A-Team since 1985 so huge credit goes to the players for their triumph, and hopefully the wait for the next one won’t be another 39 years.

Roy Johnson and Bob Gilpin led the way as captain and vice-captain with thanks also going to the several B-Team players that filled in and helped make this possible.

Meanwhile, the ladies’ strong run came to an end with a 10-0 defeat away at Abbrook Park in the SDL League and the men’s B-Team have two crucial games coming up against clubs below them in their Division- should they win both well, it should be enough to see them stay up.

The C-Team remain comfortable in their division and as there is no relegation from that league anyway, new players can be played and promotion would be a big boost for the club if it can be achieved.

Lastly, all of the friendlies/tourist games for the rest of August have been selected and as a reminder, it is still important for those that are reserves to tick for availability to be considered if needed.
