SEVERAL beaches in Devon, including three in Teignbridge, have been hit with a sewage alert after yesterday’s heavy rain.

Beaches in Dawlish and Teignmouth are among 17 of Devon’s beaches have been identified by Surfers Against Sewage as locations where sewage has been discharged.

This comes after the county was lashed with heavy rain on Thursday, September 5.

Sewage discharge is common after heavy rainfall, as storm overflows are used to prevent drains being overwhelmed.

But such circumstances see sewage discharge leaked into the sea.
