A long-standing governor at Bishopsteignton Primary School has retired after 28 years.

David Lamboll has a long history with the school, having attended as a child when the village school was based in its original building in the community centre. The school moved to its current location in 1973.

David’s children also spent their primary years at the school.

Since taking on the role of school governor in 1996, David says he has seen a lot of change in education and schools.

Current pupils at Bishopsteignton Primary School showed their gratitude for David’s 28 years of service by presenting him with an original art piece that many of them contributed to.

‘We wanted to show our appreciation to David as 28 years of support for our school is a remarkable achievement,’ said Headteacher Dave Killoran. ‘We pride ourselves on being an active and integral part of our community and so to have someone who has lived in the village all his life as part of our school for so long is very special, he added’

School governors are volunteers from the community who use their expertise in areas such as finance, personnel, business and education to help set the strategic direction of the school and hold the leadership team is accountable.

Bishopsteignton Primary school and nursery has almost 200 pupils aged between 2 and 11 years old.

As well as being a governor, David runs Shute Fruit and Produce and chairs Teignmouth Farmers Market.
