For nearly 700 years, revellers have gathered at Powderham to enjoy fine food and company. Historically, the partying was restricted to selectguests. However, this weekend the castle will open its doors to all.

Showcasing over 100 of the best food and drink producers from Devon and beyond, Powderham Food Festival also offers plenty of samples, demonstrations, and activities including a chill competition, axe throwing and face painting.

A cream tea experience also points to Powderham’s links to the creation of Devon’s famous afternoon snack.

‘Food is as much a part of Powderham now as it was in 1325 when it was a house for entertaining and feasting,’ said Powderham Castle general manager Derry Tydeman. ‘Everywhere you look, this house is about celebrating food,’ he added.

Powderham Food Festival takes place between 10am and 5pm on October 5-6. Tickets are £5 for adults and under 16s and Powderham Castle members get in for free.
